Where do people from Hawaii go on vacation? Well, if you’re like me, you trade one paradise for another! Tahiti is definitely my idea of an island getaway...I know, sounds pretty crazy since I already live on an island! It’s not just the beautiful oceans and the lush green tropics that draws me to these islands, but the people and their lifestyle as well.
While in Tahiti we were able to travel to other islands including Mo’orea and Bora Bora. It was within these islands that I was able to explore and find adventures that completely blew my mind!
If you ever find yourself in Mo’orea the one thing you must do while there is swim with the black-tip reef sharks and manta rays. You truly feel like you are in another world while swimming with these beautiful and gentle animals. I'll admit it...I was a bit hesitant jumping into the ocean that was crazy full of sharks and rays, but you know what?...once I did, I didn’t want to leave! After swimming with these guys, my love for the ocean only grew as well as my respect to these graceful and friendly creatures.
While in Bora Bora we explored the entire island by moped in a little over an hour. The views are nothing but stunning and I couldn’t believe the clarity of the water! There were sandbars that stretched on for what seemed like miles and palm tree fields that screamed island paradise! The natural beauty that Bora Bora has to offer is hands down breathtaking and oh so romantic. This was the perfect spot to celebrate our anniversary.
We ended our trip on the main island of Tahiti. It was here that we went to the local Marche Municipal, or the local farmers market. I loved this place! You can browse local vendors who are stocked with local Tahitian goods from fresh fish, coconuts and food, to authentic Tahitian pearls and local hand-dyed pareos (sarongs). Everytime I come here I stock up on gifts for friends back home. Every girl needs an authentic Tahitian pareo and Monoi Tiare Tahiti Coconut Oil!
Tahiti is truly paradise! One of the things that I love the most about going there are the people. They are truly a beautiful, giving and loving people. I was so touched when I asked our hostess at breakfast if she knew of a place where I could buy a Hei (floral crown) and she offered to make one for me and deliver it to me that same day. When I picked up the Hei she told me that she prayed and poured all of her good thoughts and hopes into the floral piece and that we would continue to have a great and safe trip. I was so touched and moved to tears. It’s a beautiful thing when people still genuinely care for those they have just met.
Although I am extremely grateful for the paradise that I live in, there will always be a piece of my heart that belongs to Tahiti! Mauruuru (thank you) Tahiti...until the next time!
